COMMENT
Although this was a small study, the good news is that no adverse respiratory effects were apparent in healthy children 4 months to <2 years old when wearing surgical face masks for short periods of time. These data suggest that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation to avoid face masks in children <3 years should be reevaluated.
